Depression Therapy
Are You or a Loved One Struggling with Symptoms of Depression? Depression Therapy Can Help.
Are you frequently feeling sad or hopeless? Do you often feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or alone? Do you feel unmotivated, ‘stuck,’ confused, unseen, or unheard? Are you having difficulty enjoying activities – even those you’ve enjoyed in the past?
Maybe you’re noticing changes in sleep patterns or diet and exercise, which are leading to fatigue, weight loss or weight gain. Are these symptoms disrupting the quality of your life, relationships, and self-confidence, or leaving you feeling isolated?
You may be feeling like a burden on others, or like things will never get better – no matter what you do or try.
Often, people struggling with depression experience one or more of these symptoms. Depression can make life feel dull and gray. It can make everything feel negative and hopeless.
But there is always hope.

Depression is a Common and Serious – Yet Treatable – Mental Illness
According to the American Psychiatric Association, depression affects an estimated one in 15 adults (6.7% of the population) in any given year. One in six people (16.6% of the population) will experience depression at some time in their life. Depression can occur at any time, but typically first appears during the late teens to mid-20s. There is a high degree of heritability (approximately 40%) when first-degree relatives (parents/children/siblings) have depression (www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/depression/what-is-depression).
The good news is that those who do receive treatment from an experienced, skilled therapist often experience a reduction in symptoms along with increased hope, energy, sense of connection to those around them, and overall life satisfaction.
What Does Depression Treatment Look Like?
Calming Mind Counseling offers quality treatment from the comfort of your home. Each 50-minute teletherapy session (through user-friendly Google Meet) is unique and personally tailored to address and prioritize whatever life challenges you are currently experiencing.
I understand that you’re probably not feeling the way that you would like to – and that you are motivated to improve your circumstances and relationships. You will find me to be a calm, kind, non-judgmental and compassionate presence. I utilize techniques from a variety of approaches including Mindfulness/Meditation education and training, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and other interventions to provide education, actionable techniques, and unconditional support in order to help you take steps towards living your best life.
First, we will discuss your motivation for therapy – what are the specific challenges and symptoms you are experiencing? What are your goals for therapy? What would you like to look or feel different in your life?
Next, we will collaborate on a plan for treatment. Are you wanting to experience more emotional control? Are you wanting to get more enjoyment out of your life and relationships? To improve self-care and/or self-confidence? Could you benefit from learning and implementing skills to improve your thought processes, activity level, or interpersonal communication skills?
The American Psychological Association reports that depression ‘is among the most treatable of mental disorders. Between 80% and 90% percent of people with depression eventually respond well to treatment. Almost all patients gain some relief from their symptoms’ (https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/depression/what-is-depression). Sometimes just having a trained, compassionate listener and unconditional supporter to share your story and challenges with can provide relief. More often, action and effort are needed to identify and establish healthier habits and barriers, increase self-awareness and to take steps outside of our comfort zones.
Research shows that the level of comfort and connection a person feels towards their therapist is the biggest factor in whether therapy will be effective. I have a casual, fun, humorous, and supportive personality and over seven years’ experience working with a diverse population of clients struggling with depression (including Major Depressive Disorder, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, Persistent Depressive Disorder (previously referred to as dysthymic disorder), Seasonal Affective Disorder, and grief and loss. Many former and current clients have reported dramatic reduction in symptoms and a greatly improved quality of life after working together, and a number of former clients have sought out services after working together in the past. Dramatic change is possible when motivation and effort are met with quality support and care.
Is Therapy Worth the Investment?
I understand and appreciate that therapy requires an investment of both capital and time. I believe – and research reflects – that therapy is one of the most effective ways to address and treat depression (The American Psychological Association, 2021). Investing in yourself – in your health and in your relationships – is perhaps the greatest investment one can make. There are no contracts or minimum obligations to meet; if you’re not completely satisfied for any reason or feel your goals have been met, you are welcome to end treatment at any time.
Is Teletherapy as Effective as In-Person Therapy?
I began offering tele-therapy to meet client’s needs during Covid. I was honestly a bit skeptical that the experience would be as connective as in-person therapy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that, not only was it just as comfortable, it may be even more so, due to my clients’ ability to participate without having to navigate transportation and parking (not to mention the ability to attend sessions from the comfort of their home or office).
Will Therapy Work for Me?
Everyone has a different therapeutic experience and journey. No one is defective or undeserving of support, and anyone can experience dramatic, positive life change when committed, engaged, and feeling supported and appropriately challenged. Like many rewarding things in life, you don’t know if you don’t go!
