Anxiety Counseling
Anxiety Is Overwhelming. Therapy Can Help.
Do you regularly feel stressed and overwhelmed by life’s challenges? Do you feel exhausted by daily encounters or tasks? Do you have a difficult time relaxing or feeling present and connected? Do you struggle with falling or staying asleep due to intrusive/repetitive thoughts?
Do you feel intimidated by things or situations that others don’t seem to, and avoid things that you used to – or would like to - enjoy?
Often, people struggling with anxiety experience one or more of these symptoms. You might also feel misunderstood, isolated, and alone. Anxiety can feel like living in a fishbowl, watching life unfold but never feeling part of it. It can make you feel like you just can’t quite ‘get things right’ – no matter how hard you try. Anxiety can also lead to depression and feelings of hopelessness – like things will never change. Anxiety can even negatively impact our physical health. But there is hope.
Anxiety is the Most Common – and One of the Most Treatable – Mental Illnesses in the United States
The ADAA (Anxiety and Depression Association of America) reports that ‘Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older (or 18.1% of the population every year). Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment. (https://adaa.org/understanding-anxiety/facts-statistics)
The good news is that those who do receive treatment from an experienced, compassionate therapist often experience a reduction in symptoms and increased relaxation, peace of mind, feelings of control, connection to those around them, and overall life satisfaction.

What Does Anxiety Treatment Look Like?
Calming Mind Counseling offers quality treatment from the comfort of your home. Each 50-minute teletherapy session (through user-friendly Google Meet) is unique and personally tailored to address and prioritize whatever life challenges you are currently experiencing.
I understand that you’re probably not feeling the way that you would like to – and that you are motivated to improve your circumstances and relationships. You will find me to be a calm, kind, non-judgmental and compassionate presence. I utilize techniques from a variety of approaches including Mindfulness/Meditation education and training, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and other interventions to provide education, actionable techniques, and unconditional support in order to help you take steps towards living your best life.
First, we will discuss your motivation for therapy – what are the specific challenges and symptoms you are experiencing? What are your goals for therapy? What would you like to look or feel different in your life?
Next, we will collaborate on a plan for treatment. Are you seeking a deeper level of self-understanding? Are you wanting to become more organized in your life? To prioritize diet and exercise? To spend more time in nature, or participating in mindfulness exercises such as journaling, meditation, or yoga? Could you benefit from learning and implementing skills to improve your sleep, peace of mind, or boundaries and communication in order to improve your relationships?
The American Psychological Association (APA) reports that ‘Most patients who suffer from anxiety are able to reduce or eliminate symptoms after several (or fewer) months of psychotherapy, and many patients notice improvement after just a few sessions.’ (https://www.apa.org/topics/anxiety/disorders). Sometimes just having a trained, compassionate listener and unconditional supporter to share your story and challenges with can provide relief. More often, action and effort are needed to identify and establish healthier habits and barriers, increase self-awareness and to take steps outside of our comfort zones.
Research shows that the level of comfort and connection a person feels towards their therapist is the biggest factor in whether therapy will be effective. I have a casual, fun, humorous, supportive personality and over seven years’ experience working with a diverse population of clients struggling with symptoms of anxiety (including Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, and Panic Disorder/panic attacks). Many former and current clients have reported dramatic reduction in symptoms and a greatly improved quality of life after working together, and a number of former clients have sought out services after working together in the past. Dramatic change is possible when motivation and effort are met with quality support and care.
Is Therapy Worth the Investment?
I understand and appreciate that therapy requires an investment of both capital and time. I believe – and research reflects – that therapy is one of the most effective ways to address and treat anxiety (The American Psychological Association, 2021). Investing in yourself – in your health and in your relationships – is perhaps the greatest investment one can make. There are no contracts or minimum obligations to meet; if you’re not completely satisfied for any reason or feel your goals have been met, you are welcome to end treatment at any time.
Is Teletherapy as Effective as In-Person Therapy?
I began offering tele-therapy to meet client’s needs during Covid. I was honestly a bit skeptical that the experience would be as connective as in-person therapy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that, not only was it just as comfortable, it may be even more so, due to my clients’ ability to participate without having to navigate transportation and parking (not to mention the ability to attend sessions from the comfort of their home or office - or even while on vacation!)
Will Therapy Work for Me?
Everyone has a different therapeutic experience and journey. No one is defective or undeserving of support, and anyone can experience dramatic, positive life change when committed, engaged, and feeling supported and appropriately challenged. Like many rewarding things in life, you don’t know if you don’t go!
